Nota Entre fiction et documentaire, A Bigger Splash n'a rien à voir avec le film éponyme de Luca Guadagnino (2016), qui est un mauvais remake de La Piscine de Jacques Deray, même si le titre fait référence au fameux tableau de l'artiste britannique.
A Bigger Splash est le tableau le plus célèbre de David Hockney.

L'Italie célèbre actuellement, avec faste, les quatre-vingts ans de l'avènement de la République. L'échec récent d'un référendum destiné à valider une loi que l'on peut qualifier de scélérate a mis en difficulté son initiatrice, Giorgia Meloni. La déconvenue de Georgette prouve la solidité de la Constitution, ce qui semble paradoxal dans un pays où l'instabilité gouvernementale est congénitale. L'apparition d'un nouveau parti fasciste concurrent du mouvement "méloniste" devrait confirmer cet état de fait lors des prochaines consultations électorales. Si les loups se dévorent entre eux, tant mieux pour la démocratie.
Je ne puis résister au plaisir d'insérer ici un (trop) court extrait du chef-d'œuvre de Dino Risi Une vie difficile dans lequel le couple formé par le génial Alberto Sordi (Silvio) et la belle Lea Massari (Elena), en pleine période de disette, est invité par un marquis, ami de la famille d'Elena, à dîner à la table de fervents monarchistes le soir où sont annoncés les résultats du référendum "pour ou contre la République". Nos principaux personnages, n'écoutant que leur estomac, font beaucoup d'efforts pour dissimuler leur bonheur de voir entérinée leur conviction républicaine. L'extrait ne comporte pas de sous-titres, ce qui ne devrait guère en altérer la compréhension. Le film demeure l'une de mes œuvres favorites du cinéma italien de la grande époque. Je le recommande vivement.
Nota On trouve le film, en location ou à l'achat, sur la plupart des plateformes VOD. Le DVD de Studio Canal est plus coûteux.
En 23 minutes, une succession d'images étourdissante de nombreux films essentiels. La variété des thèmes abordés et le traitement de la photo démontrent l'universalité du septième art. Chapeau au monteur !
